Anna Meredith is one of the most exciting composers and performers of contemporary music in the world today. Her work in both acoustic and electronic music evades easy categorisation - embracing as it does contemporary classical, art pop, electronica, and experimental rock - but one thing is certain: wherever it's performed, whether at the Hollywood Bowl, Last Night of the BBC Proms, or at surprise flashmob events, audiences of all stripes are consistently wowed by the music's verve, originality, and visceral power. This year's Prague Sounds gives Meredith a long-overdue Czech debut: she will perform a curated selection of her work with her band at La Fabrika.
When Meredith's debut album Varmints was released in 2016, it was clear the world of contemporary music had a major new player on the scene. The album's synth-heavy compositions and its unpredictable, even frenetic energy won her fans across genres. Her follow-up album, 2019's FIBS, was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and named Album of the Year by Electronic Sound. Meredith has gone on to work with the London Contemporary Orchestra, Ligeti Quartet, and percussion maestro Colin Currie among others, as well as composing for films including Yorgos Lanthimos's The Favourite and working on a range of multimedia projects and installations. In 2019, she was awarded an MBE for services to music in the Queen's birthday honours list.
'One of the most exciting compositional catalysts of our time.'

Perhaps what most sets Meredith apart from her peers are her live performances with her band. The New York Times has described their show as 'sheer exhilaration...a stormy, ecstatic thrill to behold.' NPR's Bob Boilen described their Tiny Desk concert as 'simply the most exhilarating one I've experienced.' This year, the Prague Sounds audience has the chance to experience Meredith and her band's first ever Czech show - and the intimate setting promises an extra-special night.
