Rapper and producer Idea curates a unique 'rap summit' celebrating the local scene.
Following Katarzia's stewardship of Choice's inaugural year, Idea steps up to the plate in 2025, putting together a one-off evening paying homage to the Czech rap and hip-hop scene: to the artists who've helped develop it, and to the new generation taking it forward. This one-of-a-kind evening will see more than thirty musicians take to the stage and is built around Champion Sound, one of the most respected domestic live bands working in the genre.
'Champion Sound is one of the most remarkable bands in the country, bringing together not only front-rank musicians and producers, but also a wide range of genre influences. And Laokoon's explosive mix of rap and electronica – which has made them one of the jewels of the contemporary club scene - will add still more spice to the night.'
Refresher
Champion Sound have long been admired for their work with rap artists both at home and abroad: they've backed up Prago Union, DJ Wich, and Rest, and toured with New York duo Smif-N-Wessun. At this year's Choice, Idea brings the band centre stage to give them the recognition he feels they deserve. They'll be bolstered by the horns of KYX Orchestra and Unique Strings to create a formidable big band fusing elements of hip-hop, jazz, and soul, and giving live debuts to material from their acclaimed album Stash Box. They'll also be joined by a crew of rappers including James Cole, Rest, and Berlin's MC René.
As last year, Choice will also be representing some of the best young artists on the local scene: rap-electronica duo Laokoon will open the night with a special set featuring guest appearances by Blue Uandi, Slav, Fæ Bestia, BoLs/sLoB.
This year's Choice is a coming-together of artists on a grand scale for a unique celebration of a vibrant and evolving local scene in which Idea himself has become a major player.
